  • Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

    Our favorite! on 9/29/2011

I have been coming to Disney my entire life thanks to my grandparents living in Jacksonville. I was always intrigued by the tropical resort next to the ferry boat dock, but had never stayed there until 2009 for my wedding anniversary. We stayed for only two nights in a Magic Kingdom view room, and "fantastic" does not begin to describe this place. Not only is the resort laid out so that you are always close to what you want, but the foliage is so lush that even the walk to get coffee is a treat. One bus stop, monorail, and boat services make this a perfect hub to get around the WDW, too. And the restaurants are so good that we always eat here even if we aren't staying! There is even a tiki bar that can make traditional tropical drinks. This is hands down the most relaxing place to stay at Disney, and our absolute favorite resort.

  • Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort

    Good not great on 9/29/2011

We just took my wife's family on their first visit to Disney and the seven of us stayed in a two bedroom villa and one bedroom villa. Both rooms were spacious and nicely appointed. The two bedroom boasted a Magic Kingdom view, but unfortunately due to the shape of the tower we were really facing the Grand Floridian. We could not even see all of the fireworks from one of our balconies. Something else I found odd was how poorly you can hear the MK sounds; I suppose it has to do with the Seven Seas Lagoon, but you can hear so much better at the Polynesian. We all preferred the Bay Lake view of our other room mostly because you are looking over a parking lot on the other side. If you have read my other posts, you know that we are not DVC members for good reason, but this property is actually the best of both worlds. You get full kitchens plus the Contemporary shops and restaurants. We still prefer the Poly, but this is the best vacation club property for our trips.

  • Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

    Really big property on 9/28/2011

My wife and I are not DVC members, but after a great dinner at the Turf Club we thought we should check out Saratoga for a visit. The grounds are very well kept, and the room was spacious with a nice fairway-style view. My rating of this property is low due to the size of the property relative to what we enjoy. As non-DVC members, we always purchase the deluxe Disney dining plan, which comes with a refillable mug. Only problem is the drink station can be quite a walk from your room, making the perk far less convenient. Same goes for the restaurants and shopping; just very far from your room. The transportation issue is also a problem. There are something like 5 bus stops at Saratoga, all of which you have to stop for prior to leaving the property. This may not be an issue for you, but it takes a lot longer to travel out of here thN some of the smaller properties. The place is nice, but it is just too spread out for what some may enjoy.

  • Disney's Coronado Springs Resort

Too far from most on 9/27/2011

My wife and I stayed at Coronado for Christmas in 2009 and were very pleased with the grounds. Disney has done a fantastic job with the different buildings and the "lake" is very pretty. My rating would be higher were it not for the poor transportation. We like to get to a park when it opens, but Coronado is so far away from all but Animal Kingdom that it made our plans virtually impossible. You really have to plan more time than most staying here, which means an afternoon nap back at the room is not really practical. The resort looks great, but we will not stay there again just because it is too far from the majority of things to do.
