Cara -> Liz and her Chicago adventure.....by Cara...LOL (8/26/2008 12:54:40 AM)

So last weekend we had a visitor here in Chicagoland....Liz "aka" Timon for those VMK'ers or Timonrn for those here at OLP.  Liz decided to take the train into our great city for a short little visit.  Me and the girls picked her up from the train and headed out to give Liz her first real taste of Chicago Pizza at Lou Malnati's.  We went to visit my husband at work...who assured us that we wouldn't get the special treatment of a fast table, because I forgot to call ahead.  They called him mean at the store and managed to get us a table before the posted time LOL.  There was quite a wait LOL.   We made her eat everything in the place, including dessert and rolled her out of that joint.  So much for her diet!
The next morning I dropped the girls at my parents house...much to Isabel's chagrin...she was NOT happy!....and Liz and I headed to the train station for our one day trip to see Chicago.  The trains were packed because the Air and Water show was going on so our train ended up being an express after two more stops because it was full.  We got there and discoverd FREE TROLLIES!!!!!  FREE!  FREE!  That is a nice word...let me tell you!  Of course the line was a mile long, but hey it was free and we were low on cash.  We waited and got on the trolly that would drop us off....right across the street from American Girl Store.  Wow...could it get better than that?  Well...Liz thought it could LOL

After we got in a short visit to the doll store....we headed over to Water Tower Place to eat some lunch.  Went to the traditional OLP Buddy meeting place Foodlife and had some yummy food.  After this we were headed out on our Double Decker Bus Tour of Chicago....

Here she is on the bus!

This tour is great...it has 14 stops all around Chicago and you can get off at all of them.  You just wait for another bus when you're ready to continue and they usually come every 10-15 minutes!  They also added a stop where you transfer and get an ethnic city tour.  Chinatown, Little Italy, and Greek Town...oh and Oprahtown...LOL

Here she is at the O store...Oprah that is!

Millenium Park was a stop for us.  Some pictures with Cloudgate...aka..the Bean.  Look at that skyline behind Liz!
Ask Liz how much she loved playing in the fountains with all the kids...ask her...please!  We collected our free T-Shirt that came with the bus tour...Woot for that!!!

Next we saw Buckingham Fountain and took in a Bear's Game at Soldier Field...(well not really but we pretended)

And no...that is not a spaceship that landed in the middle of Soldier Field...I swear

Our tour moved along to take in a showing of Wicked....(again not really but we pretended lol...this way we got a lot in for just one day LOL

It ended with a Ferris Wheel ride...well, not really, but we did look and ponder that Ferris Wheel and decided Nah...another time perhaps.

We rode the bus until it closed and the driver had to please ask us to get off, it was over.  We ended where we began and headed into the Hershey Chocolate store to get our free Candy Bar that came with the tour!  Another WOOT!  We tried to get the free popcorn but the line was ridiculous and the portion looked oh so small LOL.
We stood in line for the free trolly back to the train station...and we were the last two allowed on the bus...the free trolly was over for the day and all the other people would have to walk back.  And then they let two more on.  That trolly was so full, I'm surprised it could move...seriously.  Then the driver stopped to let someone out on Michigan Ave.  and a lady tried to get on...it was full and rides were over so she wasn't allowed.  She was very angry at our very nice driver.  But we made it back with minutes to spare on a full train back to the suburbs.  We went to dinner at California Pizza Kitchen....yum and then went to collect the girls.
The visit was too short...and the next morning we dropped Liz at her train back to Chicago where she would catch the next back to Minnie Soda.  She'll have to continue her adventure from here............
Thanks for coming Liz!!!!!!  It was Fun!!!!

Ok I've got to say that I love the picture of Liz and the "Loser" sign. [sm=laugh.gif]  Then I have to say I so wish I lived only a train trip away from Chicago.  Cara, it sounds like you and Liz had a really great time.  Now I can't wait for Cara's trip to "Mini Soda".
