The next step on my path of wellbeing...  a personal trainer[:-]  She specializes in working with people who have back injuries so it will be interesting to see what kind of program she puts me on that will adjust for insulin, injury, and my personal style of irreverance for all things medically traditional[&o]  She asked me to set a weight goal, and I told her what my body looks like isn't what I want to change (Alan already sees me as beautiful)...  I just want to have more flexibility, more core strength and stamina, and more sense of vitality.  How do we measure that?[:D]

Jeannie -> RE: Started with a Personal Trainer yesterday (8/2/2008 7:53:19 PM)

Congratulations!  I hope you will be as happy with your trainer as we are with ours.  Brian and I started with a personal trainer in the middle of May.

I didn't have the desire or the willpower to exercise on my own.  Nope, I just wouldn't do it!  Now I work out 3 times a week for an hour each time.  I'm getting stronger and I love how you can see the muscle definition in my arms/shoulders/back.  My calves are looking pretty good these days, too! [&o]

I still don't like to exercise, but I'm liking the results!  We buy 'sessions' with the trainer and we just bought a new block that should take us into February.  Good results, already paid, and doing it with Brian all mean I can't/won't quit!

I have a really good feeling about her, Jeannie.  She used a postural assessment that could tell which muscle groups are weak and which ones are over compensating from the injury, and she says we'll spend as much time on flexibility and core strengthening as we do resistance and aerobic training..  I get excited listening to her describe it[>:] And thanks for sharing your success story; it inspires me to go for it wholeheartedly!

I think the best news of the assessment was the heart test.  Back in 2001, I was diagnosed with a degenerative heart condition considered a complication to Diabetes.  My pulse back then was over 100 at rest and quickly rose to over 130 as soon as I started to move, then wouldn't come back to the resting pulse for quite some time.  I tried the medication the doctor wanted me to use for awhile, but I found that having to go for blood tests every three months to make sure the medication wasn't harming another system in my body was emotionally depressing for me.  So I stopped using it and turned to natural remedies - no surprise there, eh?[:-]

7 years later...  My resting heart rate during the assessment on Friday was 69[:D]  I did a fast walk at an incline for 5 minutes, and it only went up to 112...  (and the best news yet[&o]) it went down to 80 in less than a minute.  So, I guess I am redefining the term 'degenerative'[sm=laugh.gif]

All I can say is, "To Infinity and Beyond!"[>:]

Nope, nope, they had the diagnosis wrong (cause they didn't know you very well) - what you have is:
   a Regenerative heart condition!

Seriously, I am so happy to hear that you are doing so well.  Hope the trainer has a good sense of fun!

love

How's it going?

Our 2 mile a night walk came to a halt this week. Jeremy, Kris and I are sick with a yucky 'cold' bug. The dr said what's going around is like the flu - just as bad, fever, cough, cold, headache, bodyaches, tired.... but it's not the 'flu'
Not to mention it's been sooo overly HOT here. Near 100 and air quality leaves little to be desired. But next week the temps are suppose to back down and we should be feeling better.

Ahnalira -> RE: Started with a Personal Trainer yesterday (8/6/2008 4:02:28 PM)

Today was my second appointment.  We worked on flexibility and the release of tension in my legs..  which she says is a primary factor in back pain.  She has a degree in Sports Physical Therapy - felt like a physical therapy session in many ways[:-]

In any case, I'm going back for more on Tuesday...  I'm gong to dance again; I can feel it[&o]

Hope you and your babies feel better soon, Snowy[;)][>:]

that sounds like my type of workout! I think it's so great for the body to release tension and work on flexibility!!

Thanks for the healing dust- I went down hill yesterday, but starting to climb back up today! [&o]
