Coreybear -> A blast from my (Disney) past. (7/9/2008 5:15:01 PM)

I just received a shocking and remarkable email from my cousin Barbara in Englewood, New Jersey.    I describe it as shocking and remarkable because my cousin Barbara NEVER ever, ever writes letters or emails.   She has never been a letter-writing or emailing sort of person, and I learned early on to just accept this little quirk about her as being just a piece of the pie that is cousin Barbara.   About fifteen years ago I made the ghastly mistake of sending her an email, and she responded by telling me NEVER ever do that to her again, because she HATES receiving emails due to the fact that it makes her feel obligated to answer them, and that is the worst thing in the whole universe she can not do ... it even goes beyond ironing which she hates with a violent passion.   From that time on I have not sent her an email.   So today, when I was going through my incoming emails and saw something from HER, I nearly fell on the floor in shock and disbelief.   What could have prompted cousin Barbara to write ME ???    Here's her story:   Many, many years ago when dinosaurs and prickly creatures wandered the earth, in the distant year of 1979, cousin Barbara came out to Los Angeles to visit her west coast cousins.   She brought her daughter Michelle and son Andrew, and her niece Cherie  (cousin Cherie is the daughter of cousin Berton,  (Barbara's older brother)  and Sheila, divorced for many years from cousin Berton.  Sheila now lives in Israel and is a mucho macho celebrity there a la Joan Rivers ....

Anyhoo, back to cousin Barbara's visit to LA LA land in 1979:

While they were here visiting they could NOT leave without visiting DisneyLAND, of course.   So, I made the huge sacrifice  (tee hee hee)  of escorting my group of cousins from the east to our favorite place in Anaheim.   I even went as far as cancelling a dental appointment so I could go to DisneyLAND with my cousins!    Michelle and Cherie were about 13 years old in 1979, and cousin Andrew was 10 years old.     It was the very first time Andrew, or I, had ever gone on Space Mountain.   Andy kept talking about it in the car for the entire 90 minute ride from home to the park, and could not wait to ride Space Mountain!   And, he wanted ME to ride it with him.   He never knew how much the idea of it terrified me, and because it was so special for him that I rode with him, I just bit my tongue real hard and committed myself to doing this for him.

As we walked down Main Street towards Tomorrowland, Andrew at my side, he reached out and took my hand.    I'm not sure if he grabbed my hand because he was enjoying male companionship with me amidst the group of his mother, sister, and cousin Cherie, or if he was a tiny bit nervous about Space Mountain.   He will never know how comforting it was for ME to be holding his hand as we got nearer and nearer to that terrifying Space Mountain.   I don't remember much of the ride because I had my eyes closed the entire time, and I was gripping whatever I could hold on to for dear life.

That was the one and ONLY time I ever experienced that mountain.    Thankfully, the rest of the day at DisneyLAND was very happy and magical .... with loads of giggles and smiles.   Now, to make a long Disney story a bit shorter and more tolerable, let's flash forward to today .... and back to the reason for cousin Barbara emailing me.    Cousin Michelle, now 42 years old, just returned home from a trip to Disney WORLD.    While giving her mother Barbara the details and trip report about her visit to the WORLD, she mentioned their visit to DisneyLAND in the long ago, prehistoric days of the year 1979, and they both fondly re-lived their visit  to the LAND with cousin Corey.   It's wonderful to know that memory they have still holds strong and magical in their hearts, as it does in mine.     Cousin Barbara just wanted to send a quickie email to let me know they had been talking about me and that special DisneyLAND day in 1979.    I dare not answer her email for fear she will disown me and swear she never had a cousin Corey in HER familly.   Do you think she'd go nuclear if I send her a lovely arrangement of flowers?
