US economy and Disney Parks?

I just read an article that stated Disney theme park bookings were down because of the current financial crunch.   Oy! Oy!

The travel industry must also be feeling a big hit, too.   My first thoughts, and concerns, are for OLP Travel .... I definately do not want Ahnalira and Ser Alan and all the OLP Travel Pixies to suffer heavy slow-downs of bookings and customers.   That is NOT a good thing that could happen to OLP, Disney parks, airlines, etc.

The daughter of my 90-year-old "Wonder Woman" friend, Jeanne, in Hawaii, owns several rental properties for tourists and island visitors that want, or need, accommodations that offer other features than standard hotels or resorts.    Jeanne told me that in the last couple of months bookings for these rentals have seriously dropped ... her daughter Kathy and son-in-law Ed are worried about the loss of income they are struggling with right now. Kathy used to be a United Airlines flight attendant years ago before she met and married her Ed ....

If bookings at Disney parks/resorts are down, I wonder if that means the parks will be less crowded?    And Disney will need to make cut-backs ..... a lot of CMs might be threatened by losing their jobs, NOT a good thing.    Hmmmm, will Mr. Obama etc. find a fast solution to the current financial status?   He is getting a lot dumped in his lap before he officially moves into the White House in January .... I'm glad it's not me that's responsible for pulling this country out of the hole.    Although, this week I have been doing whatever I can to circulate money into the system ... I've been spending BIG moneys on Christmas gifts.   I guess I should hop over to DisneyLAND and spend oodles of noodles there. :-)

First of all, Coreybear... BIG

for thinking of us at OLP Travel

And I agree with you, I intend to be part of the solution by continuing to contribute to our economy's flow. Right after 9/11, Alan and I got on a plane and flew to Disneyland... because somebody had to do it

And didn't we have just the BEST time that trip? You and Gary and KimmyKay and Beth and Rudy and Alan and me holding hands singing our patriotic hearts out together

We were, imho, part of the solution that day

Disney is doing their part, too. They came up with a GREAT deal at Disney World for the first 6 months of 2009 that will both help people save and help us continue to flow resources into our economy.

Like you, I am eager and hopeful to see the solutions our government proposes, but I believe each of us individually is the solution by willingness to take care of each other, count our blessings, and find the silver linings

We went to WDW right after 9/11- and have been there several times since- hey, just doing my part!

I know things are hard, but since the gas prices went down, our stores are packed. It really seems people are getting out and about these last few weeks. Traffic in our area is way up again!!! So maybe we're heading in a positive note??

Disney was way down in Sept the week I was there, but I'm sorry, I was sorta happy with no lines, no fighting for a spot to watch the parade, no dancing around a zillion strollers.

I know, my bad. I have been told by cm's that Dec is going to be packed. So that's good.

We're in that club too, that's for sure. I read somewhere attendence projection is probably going to be lower than usual. I think Disney will come out of this alright because of people like all of us hehe. We're going to go to Disney come anything. We're definitely not in the minority.

I hope gas stays this low since we're driving to WDW in January. We've driven all but one trip out there because, even for the 2 of us in either his gas guzzler pickup or my suv, it's still less expensive than round trip flight for us. Besides, we have time to unwind and get into Disney mode before we get there. We usually hit Disney-relaxed-mode by about.. oh between Lake Charles & Baton Rouge! LOL I usually fall asleep 30 mins into the drive and wake up just outside of Houston.

I'm really hoping for shorter lines in January. We went for February and it was gorgeous! Weather was cold (loved it), lines were short (save for Cheer Nationals), EE was in soft opening.. Man, I can't wait to get back to the mouse!!
