Well, I have quite a bit of news to get you all caught up to the point of my whirlwind afternoon today. First of all, Sami's football team, The Chicago Force, is doing FANTASTIC. They just beat their bitter rivals (and defending champions), The Detroit Demolition, this last Saturday, in a battle royale in the pouring rain and hail. This was the second time they beat them this year, but this time it was the first round of playoffs. Now, they advance to the second round and if they beat the Pittsburgh Passion, they will advance to the IWFL Superbowl. Because the Force are undefeated, they are the number one seed, so everyone has to come to them. So they have all home games. Co-incidenentally, Chicago was chosen as the site of the Superbowl this year (last year it was Atlanta, the year before L.A.). This could mean that Chicago might actually get to play in the Superbowl in their Home City/Stadium. The Passion are good team, though, they are also undefeated in their division. The game this last Saturday was played with a lot of heart by everyone. Sami was hurt in the 1st quarter by getting her finger caught in a facemask when she was passing the ball. She still played the game though...there was no way she wasn't going to continue to play. The game came down to about 2 minutes left and the force got a TD and decided to go for the 2 point conversion to win it. They got it, and won the game 8-7. It was a hard fought battle. You can read the recap here if you like: http://www.chicagoforcefootball.com/gamedayrecap.asp?ID=66 What they quoted Sami saying after the game, gave me the chills. Of course, that is probably because I am her mother. But I just thought it was really cool. Anyway...so during the game Saturday, Greg and I were sitting and listening to it, since they broadcast all their home games on the internet. We were just biting our nails and Greg kept saying, "We should be there." "We should have been there". Of course, all of you know our financial challenges as of late and it just is not possible for both of us to go. Today, Sami had x-rays on her hand and she has a hairline fracture. The doctor put her in a hard cast, but said it is coming off next monday and she should be able to play. The Doctor just wants it to stay immobile for a week and it should be good to go. So, today, Greg calls me and said, "You should be out there for this next game". I said, "How?". He then told me to look up fares on the internet. They were just so high in price. I called him back with the prices and told him the lowest price I found had only 4 seats left. He said to book it! I was shocked. He said he didn't know how, but we would manage it somehow and that it is important that one of us be there. So....and I know all this has been long getting to it...but, next Tuesday I leave for Chicago. And since the time between her game on the 12th and the Superbowl, is 2 weeks, I will be staying in Chicago for 3 weeks! They might not advance to the superbowl, but I will stay there no matter what happens. Also..during the time I will be there, Sami is moving to a place on lakeshore drive...so I will be around to help with that. She is also in the finals of a competition where the prize is to sing the National Anthem at Wrigley Field on July 27th (the day after the Superbowl)...so if she wins that singing competition, I will be there for that also. It is a tough competition though. There have been hundreds of auditions and now it is down to the final 7 people and Sami is one of them. The competition is next Wednesday Night..and yep..I will be there for that too! hehe. She does this really different (but still classic) version of the national anthem with her Ukulele. So...if anyone can get to Chicago between July 9th (I don't arrive until late july 8) through July 28th, I would LOVE to see you!!! The Force would also love your support at the game vs. Pittsburgh on July 12th and hopefully again at the superbowl. :) I am sorry this post is just all over the place, but I really wanted to get you all up to speed and, at the same time, tell you I was going to be in Chicago. I am also still really excited because I just didn't expect this to happen, so my mind is racing with so many thoughts and the excitement of seeing my girl. It is has been since Christmas since I have seen her.
