Drew's school went into lockdown at 10 this morning. Someone gave an anonymous tip to the school that a student had a gun..... They have searched the school and found nothing Thank God but I'm still a wreck. We've been through bomb call pranks before but it was in elementary school, high school just seems so much scarier. These kids are almost adults and you just don't know what some of them are thinking you know?

He should have been home by 2:30 and he's not home yet. The auto messaging from the school said everyone was fine. The news said they were dismissing the kids slowly and having them all go through metal detectors then escorting them to the busses by the police. I know he's fine or I would have heard something but I won't be calm until my baby is home!

Joanne  Consider it done.  A steady stream of reassuring thoughts and prayers and  until your boy is home safe

Scary stuff, I know!  We've had several bomb threats at the high school this year and the middle school (B's an 8th grader) is attached to the HS, so we've had to deal with the evacuations and stuff.  I know how scary those can be, so I'm sure a gun threat is even scarier!  Bless your heart!  I'm glad Drew is home safe and sound now!  Give him extra hugs!

Sorry I didn't post again but I've been getting him fed and he had a hockey game we had to rush out to.

He made it home over an hour after stepping on the bus. He was starving and frustrated but I don't care. Just glad to have him home. You know it's funny, we're having economic troubles just like everyone else (less money coming in and more money going out) but it all gets put in perspective. I didn't give one thought to anything but seeing Drew to walk in the door.

A father of his teammate is a teacher at the school and said they will be searching the school this weekend. They pretty much just searched the kids and the hallways  today while the kids were being dismissed. It is a huge school (vocational technical high school) so I'm glad they have the whole weekend to search. They are looking for a gun and ammo..... I don't know if I hope they find something or not.

I know that sounds wierd but one side of me says they find it and I know it's out of there, the other side says they don't find anything and I keep wondering if it's hidden somewhere that they can find it.

I hate this stuff.

Joanne  I'm sorry to be so late in posting but we were without a computer until Sunday and I just didn't think to go onto the OLP site.  I'm releaved to hear that Drew made it home safe and sound even though it was late.  I'm so sorry you had to go through all that worry.

Thanks Dawn, I have to say I'm so impressed with the way this school has handeled the whole situation. We've received 3 automated calls in 2 days keeping parents updated on everything.

The whole thing started with a home robbery in which guns were stolen. Turns out some kids involved go to the school and that's what caused the lockdown. No threat that they were bringing the guns to school but they didn't want to take any chances. They spent the weekend searching the school and found nothing on the school grounds but they did recovered the guns at another location.

There was a small police presence at the school and there were councilors for the kids who needed them. Drew said a few kids were still kind of freaked out but it was pretty much a normal day otherwise.
