I feel like I am just about home body and mind  All the travel we've done recently took a toll on my back, and I am back to regular CHI machine sessions until the inflammation is gone...  small price to pay I figure for so much fun  I've shortened my exercise sessions to 25 minutes, but I am still maintaining the daily routine.

I am done with the dentist until mid June when I go back for a check up...  this is my scheme: go "before" I need oral surgery  I don't know if the dentist would have known any sooner that the bridge had a crack that allowed an infection to set in, but I'm willing to give it a chance

I am changing my eating routine for breakfast.  I've been eating weight-control oatmeal for almost 6 months, and I like it because it's easy to make and easy to count.  Lazar talked me into trying a protein smoothie made with organic vegetables, fruits, and spirulina in it.  I've had two breakfasts with it, and now that Alan got me a single server blender, I think I might like it (not so much stirred with a spoon LOL)

We've got three weeks before we head out to Europe for a working cruise with Abraham-Hicks, and I plan to make the most of it healthwise

How's everyone out there?

I've been doing okay. I have been "maintaining" my weight for the past few weeks.  I'm a little annoyed with that, but, not too much. It's better than going up! It'll give eventually!

Lately I find that I am craving carbs! I'm not sure what is up with that? But, I've got to shake that! I think that may be why I am "maintaining" my weight at this point! I still watch the portion I eat, I just eat more in a day than I should and not enough fruits and veggies.

I used to eat the WC oatmeal as well. About a month ago I switched over to regular old fashioned oatmeal with 1 TBLSP of flaxseed meal and a touch of cinnamon. I side that with a banana, a glass of milk, a "shot" of oj, and my multi-vitamin. I've switched off to other things but find I am starved way too soon in the morning. So, I've gone back to my regularly scheduled brekkie.

I've been getting to my workout 4 - 5 times per week. That's better than I ever thought I would. I set my goal at 3 times! I've also been getting in lots of yard work lately. Most of yesterday was spent playing lumberjack with Jim!  We majorly trimmed some trees in the back yard. Which also required cutting the tree limbs up and then stacking the wood. I was pooped by evening.

I've been doing really well with my menu planning. I figure out the next weeks schedule of events which will affect the time to prepare and/or eat (carpools, softball, etc.), then I consider what I have leftover and in the freezer, take a look at the local sales and make my plan! It's almost become a game to take what I already have in the house as leftovers and transform the ingredients into something else tasty. I also like to try one new recipe a week. This planning also helps me limit my trips to the grocery to ONCE a week. I will admit there has been a few times where the store I was shopping in didn't have what I needed and so I had to go back later in the week or to another store. No biggie! I find that I enjoy cooking so much more when I know what I will make and that all the ingredients are at hand. A good music cd in the kitchen helps too!

So, I'm okay! Glad to hear you are too Ahnalira! Take care of that back! Did you get a Magic Bullet? We have one in our house and they are so much fun. Lindsay has learned to replicate a Wendy's Frosty with ours using frozen yogurt and sugar free choco! yummers

I woke up to the nice suprise of 19lbs down!!  WOOHOO!!  So, I went ahead and measured and my total inches is 15 1/4!!  Another 1 3/4 down in the last two weeks!  YAY!!  I feel REALLY good about that!!  This weekend I found the cutest brown halter top with butterflies on it and after trying it on we decided I HAD to have it!  Then today I went to JCPenney (the one I worked at back in the day) and found the cutest pair of plaid L.E.I. shorts that were on sale for 14.99, plus I had a $10 off coupon, so I got $32 shorts for $5!!  And, here's the kicker, they match my top perfectly!  It looks like they were meant to be together!  YAY!!  So, I figured it must have been the FOTU congratulating me!  Yup, that has to be it!  So now I'm down to 1 lb left to reach my goal of 20 lbs!  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!!!  In the last few days it's been very windy in Ks (I'm tellin' ya, hurricane winds anywhere else!!) and people keep telling me I'm gonna have to put rocks in my pockets to keep me grounded!  I remind them that my hiney will keep me well grounded, no worries!  But still, just the fact that people are noticing really makes me feel like my efforts are noticable!  Again, YAY!!

Jeff is home this week, so it's nice to not be alone for even a little while.  It was nice to try on my new shorts with the new top and have someone to show!  It's nice to have someone to tell about my most recent accomplishments and have them be proud of me.  I just feel better all the way around!

Ahnalira, keep on keepin' on!  I agree, it was a small price to pay for lots of fun!  Now you can get all back to 100% and ready for another adventure!  Tammy, it's only a plateau and you'll soon dive into more loss and energy!!  You're DEFINITELY rockin' my socks!!

Late as usual LOL but here goes...My weight is maintaining but I feel so much better about things.  Austin keeps telling me to hang on a little longer and everything will be better, so I am.  I am walking about two miles I think a day, and today my two dughters and Ryan went to see my son's apartment and he is on the third floor...both the girls (who are skinny) got winded but NOT ME YAY!!!  Love it!!!!  Working nights is working out better than I expected. I do not snack anymore and I stop eating when I feel full.  I guess I'm not using food anymore for comfort, and I'm pretty sure my husband is looking at me in a whole different light.  That's my story for the week.  Congrats to all of you on your inches and accomplishments!!

I've had a pretty good "first week" back on WW. I was disappointed that I only lost 1 pound (since that first week back is usually good for 2-4 pounds) but a pound is a pound. I'll take it.

I also had a doctor's appt. yesterday and I think we may be honing in on the culprit for some of my woes. Six weeks ago my doctor tripled my dose of beta blockers to get my BP back in check but I was soooooooooo tired and I also noticed that my joints were achy and my plantar fasciitis seemed to be flaring up. My joints and feet have been achy since Disneyland so I figured it was just too much weight walking on concrete for my poor little feet to handle (and I'm sure that was a contributing factor).

So, sore feet + extra fatigue = no exercise. Not good at all.

I told the doctor this and she switched me to a different kind of beta blocker that is not supposed to make you tired. After one day I can already feel my energy returning and the best part of all is that my joints and feet hardly hurt at all today (and it's been raining all day here which is usually when I get the achiest). It turns out that one of the side-effects of the old medicine was arthritis-like symptoms in a small number of people.

Another bonus....I've been "eliminating" lots of liquid today so I'm betting that the old meds were also making me retain water (no wonder I gained nearly 25 pounds without much change in diet!)

Of course, the ultimate goal is for me to not need ANY medicine for Blood Pressure and this seems like a step in the right direction. If I feel this good all the time there will be no stopping me from walking everywhere I can and getting MUCH more exercise.

And on the food front....I've been very good at sticking to my WW points and I've cut back on portion sizes. I'm finding that it doesn't take that much volume of food to satisfy me. It's become a game to see how small my portions can be and still fill me up. I've been starting small and promising myself more IF I need it. Tonight was the first night I had hunger pangs 2 hours or so after dinner but all I had was a cup of minestrone soup so I guess that wasn't quite enough....

So, all in all, moving in the right direction this week. Since I'm aiming to change my way of life instead of just "dieting", it's all good....

Good job Lisa! Down is good! A whole week of good eating is great progress! Give yourself another week and it will be a good habit!

I know well that disappointing 1 lb loss. When we look at the "big" (no pun intended ) picture, 1 lb is a drop in the bucket. As they say in Mulan, "it takes but one grain of rice to tip the scale!" And, there you go, there's you first grain of rice! The scale is already tipping! For myself, it helps me to keep a positive attitude by thinking in small terms. I set micro goals for each week, sometimes not scale related. Those goals are NSV's. Non Scale Victories! Such as fitting comfortably in something that once felt snug. And they are very worthy of celebrating! Next I set a monthly goal that IS scale related. But be reasonable to yourself! Don't set yourself up for failure by raising the bar too high! To me, weight loss and well-being is ALL about being kind to yourself. And, the really cool thing about that? A side effect is the kindness seeps out of you and into your surroundings.

Now, about that feeling hungry.....the beauty of WW is that we can virtually eat ANYTHING as long as we count points. I love that! But! I have found there are some foods that will stave off the hunger pains for a longer time. Here are some things I have learned about myself:

I need to eat 3 meals and 3 snacks over the course of the day. (Space them out evenly and eat them even if you are not hungry. If you miss one, you will find you are suddenly hungry as a bear and will eat ANYTHING you can catch.)

I also do better when I have my higher point meals at breakfast and dinner. I can make a delicious 4 point sammie (bread, spread, meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato), some fruit, and a serving of baked chips for my lunch and REALLy enjoy it as well as feel satisfied. On the other hand, I've found if I eat a frozen meal or leftovers from a meal I've made, I am ravenous before I know it.

I also need to include some amount of protein each time I eat. I CRAVE carbs and could devour them all day long. So, making sure I have a protein, even a small amount, with each meal and even with snacks, helps me to stave off the hungries.

Finally, here is a great book to read to help you identify "filling foods." You may have already read it, but, it has helped me with my food choices. Volumetrics Eating Plan by Barbara Rolls, Ph. D. I don't "follow" the plan so much as use the guidelines to help me choose foods that will provide me with more volume and less calories. I think it works well hand in hand with WW.

That was a lot of information Lisa, I hope you find something in there useful. LOL I care about you girlfriend and I know you can do this. I don't care about your weight so much as I want to see you happy and healthy. So, just keep that prize in your sights and the weight loss thing will happen naturally. Trust me on that! When you are feeling good about yourself, it's easy to make good choices!

Please, please, let me know if you need a boost, a pat on the back or just need something. (Sometimes, we don't know what we need! LOL) you can always e-mail or PM me honey! I really want to help you suceed with this. And, for my part it will help me too! Sharing this stuff with you will help me stay on track too!

As I mentioned in my post to Lisa, when we make the focus our well-being, it naturally changes so many things in our lives. The old "trickle-down" affect in a good way!

What is it about night time that turns our minds to FOOD? I'm sure it is all habit, but, how did we slip in to that habit?

One of the interesting things I've learned watching The Biggest Loser show is that we have to be careful to eat "enough".  We think (I know I did) that the less I eat the better for weight loss, but what I learned is that we need to eat a certain amount to even get our metabolism to kick-in...  otherwise the body stores everything like it's a famine

That was when I started eating brekkie

I wonder if that's what's going on here. I mean, I was practically an ANGEL this week on the food thing and my portions were teeny weeny. I was right AT my recommended POINTS but maybe that was too radical of a drop from where I was eating?? Hmmm.....

For lunch today I'm eating some more Zero Points veggies just to give my system something to do. We'll see if that makes the scale budge....also I know I'm not getting in all of my water. I'm doing better but not quite the 8 glasses a day.

I weighed myself this morning and I figured that with all of those trips to the bathroom I'd be down a little. Nope. Nada. Nyet! The scale is exactly where it's been for the past few days. Grrrrr.....!!

I need to talk myself out of the mindset of "I might as well eat what I want since the scale isn't budging anyways." I know. I know. Patience....yeah, ya'll remember me?? The Queen of ADD and Impatience.....

Thanks for letting me vent!!

I would trust WW to know...  if you were right at your point allotment, you are probably eating the perfect amount

Sometimes...  and I know this is the dreaded word...  it all comes down to exercise.  Our bodies become masters of efficiency at buring as little fuel as possible, and the best way to change that is to convince it body it needs to burn faster.  Exercise is what what does that.  I know.  I'm sorry.  It's true.

Case in point:  Alan and I were both following the "plan", and the weight was melting off him - but not me.  I was even exercising two to three times a week.  When I started getting on the treadclimber for a 20 minute minimum six out every 7 days...  that's when the weight started coming down in a noticable way.

Twenty minutes really isn't all that long.  It's just a good habit worth cultivating

Hey girly!!  One pound is a great place to start!!  And it will continue to grow into more and more pounds!  I know someone else has touched on this as well, but I want to reitterate that you HAVE to eat ENOUGH!  Not eating enough will have the opposite effect and make your body think it's in a famine and retain fat.  Not good at all!  But that's where WW is great b/c you always have the option of a snack and it's all about listening to what your body is telling you!  Some days I need snacks, some days I don't.  But I always have a fiber one cereal bar handy just in case!  You would laugh b/c I have a tiny purse and I keep a bar crammed in it "just in case"!  So, the bulge in my purse is not extra stuff, just food!  Yeah, I know, I'm a dork!  Heaven forbid I get a bigger purse!  ANYWAY, that's just my two cents!  Also, have you tried the zero point soups?  They are AMAZING and FILLING!  Another great option for an in between meal snack or a meal in and of itself!  Oh, and popcorn!  I LOVE my mini bags of popcorn!  I'm pretty sure I'm addicted!  And, last but not least, snacking on healthy foods makes it soooo much easier to make good choices and correct point sizes when it's time for a meal!  Gotta love that!

Keep up that great attitude girlfriend!!

I think everyone sounds great!

Ahnalira, you seem to know your limit, and I think you know how far past your limit you can go.     I am glad you have some time to rest up before the AH cruise.

Jodi!      Good for you!  I can feel the bounce in your post.

Tammy, I am always looking for new breakfast options, and yours does sound good.  Right now, I have 1 cup of vanilla yogurt, with about a half a cup of mixed berry yogurt smoothie mixed in.  I may try the oatmeal.  Is there a brand name that you buy?

Liz, it is nice to see you.  I think you sound very self assured, and empowered.  I have been praying for you and Austin.

Lisabell, I think you are well on your way!  Next week you will see the difference, I bet.  Beta Blockers can be a pain, really slowing down the metabolism.  I love you, sweetie.

So, how am I?     I am rocking!  This week Tim and I have not missed any days walking.      The weather is getting warmer every day, feels like summer is just around the corner.     Mari got her official letter from Springfield College, and was accepted into their pre-med program.  This gives me such great satisfaction, to see her succeeding.    I am happy as can be lately, very content.

I am still being pondered by doctors, which is kind of funny at this point.  They can't figure it out.     I should be sick, and there must be something there.     They were so sure they would find what was wrong, and every single test to date, except one blood test, has been 100% normal.   I see one doctor on Monday, next week, and we will see what his next move will be.  I made a list of new questions, and my thinking is that whatever was going on, has resolved.  I am still having a little bit of discomfort, not even really pain.

I still need to work on the late night snacking issue.  (As I hang my head in shame)  I agree with Tammy about night time hunger.  I have no idea why, but after everyone is asleep at night, I want to graze...   I mean, I will wake up at midnight, get up, and graze for a snack.  I am usually half asleep!

Mari came home one night, and I was sitting at the table; eating a glass of chocolate milk!  Yes, you read that right.  I pour the milk in, and then a squirt A LOT of chocolate syrup in the bottom of the glass.  Using a spoon, I eat the chocolate syrup off the bottom.  When the syrup is gone, I drink the milk that is left.   The cats usually join me in the kitchen, and I give them treats.

I have not had any candy in over a week.

It is nice to have the time to check in, and see folks here.  Thanks for being here.

Francine

Your body may be waking you up because it has low bloodsugar.  If this is the case, the solution is simple.  About a half hour to an hour before you go to bed, eat a small snack that has protein and complex carbs in it - like cheese and on a piece of toast or half an apple and peanut butter or a packet of weight control oatmeal

Noticeably missing from your list is chocolate milk.   I guess that wouldn't be complex enough, right?     I am cracking myself up here!  Tonight, I will try this suggestion.

Lisa, you can always share your points tracker with your WW leader. They are very good at pin pointing what you may not be seeing in your food plan. Sometimes, it is a matter of eating too much of one thing or not enough of another.

WW advocates ALWAYS eating all the food points you are allowed. They support what Ahnalira said about the Biggest Loser and eating enough. And, remember, if you are getting exercise, you get to ADD more points to your plan. I know they don't start you off with activity points, but, activity burns calories and if you are walking a lot, you may need extra points to make sure your body is not going in to starvation mode! Thus, making you feel hungry.

30 minutes of moderate activity (activites where you can talk, but not sing, breathe often and deep, and start to sweat after 10 mintues) will earn a 200 lb person 2 points! Lighter activity less - intense more. But, you should not do intense exercise without a Dr's permission. (Thank heaven I don't have my Dr's permission! )

On the other hand, I know, no matter how good I am about my food, there are just some weeks that I am STARVED. And, that's that! Other weeks, dieting is a breeze and I wonder why it's been so hard in the past. Then, I swing in to that starving phase again. Dieting is simple, but NOT easy!

The important thing is to not give up when there is no loss or even when you see a weight gain! Do NOT fall in to the trap where you figure you may as well eat what you want because it doesn't matter if you're starving on a diet or feasting on what you like. Persevere! The weight did not appear magically overnight in our sleep and making a lifestyle change like this is not gonna magically happen overnight either.

Good to see you hear, that you are doing well....and I  that you are amzing and mystifying your Dr's!  Because, to me, that says you are doing things right! Good for you!

I use to buy the Quaker Oats Instant Weight Control oatmeal. But, it was kinda pricey and so I switched back to regular Quaker Oats Old Fashioned! I make it with water, but you can make it with milk if you like. Oatmeal cooks in the microwave in less than a minute and a half. Before I pop it in the micro, I add 1 TBSP of flax seed meal and a shake of cinnamon. Both of these are "SuperFoods" adding fiber and "magical protection properties!" Sometimes I add a packet of Splenda depending on my mood. Nothing special, but it really does the trick to keeping me satisfied longer in the morning. Cold cereal just doesn't cut it for me at all. I'm hungry in an hour!
