Birthdays and Beyond: The Trend Toward “Celebration Vacations”

Anniversaries, personal triumphs, family milestones – there’s so much in life worth celebrating, and birthdays are only the start! As you know, Disney Parks are asking the question, “What Will You Celebrate?”, and tapping into the up-and-coming travel trend of “celebration vacations” can help drive your Disney vacation bookings in 2009.
A nationwide survey of nearly 4,600 adults conducted by Ypartnership – co-author of the influential National Travel Monitor™ – showed that 70% of U.S. and Canadian leisure travelers have taken a vacation with the primary purpose of marking a special occasion in their lives – a “celebration vacation.”
The people who were surveyed mentioned a broad range of events worth celebrating with a special vacation. Beyond birthdays, anniversaries and reunions they also mentioned a first vacation with children, a job promotion or recovery from an illness as occasions worthy of a celebration vacation.
Peter C. Yesawich, the president and C.E.O. of Ypartnership, stated, “The motivations revealed in this fascinating research suggest that vacations are increasingly viewed as an appropriate way to either recognize or reward the participants for some event of great significance in their lives.”
More than two-thirds of survey respondents said they have taken trips around specific milestone events – and for many, that timing drove them to plan these trips farther ahead than usual, to stay longer and to spend slightly more than they otherwise would.
Research also showed that when families take a celebration vacation, they’re looking for destinations that provide activities for children and – better yet – activities that adults and children can enjoy together.
So of course, it should come as no surprise that Disney Parks topped the list of destinations where families would most like to celebrate these special occasions. They are traveling to reconnect with each other at a special time, and to make those events even more extraordinary as they create memories to last a lifetime.
Disney Parks have always been the ideal setting for celebrations big and small, and even more exciting and unique experiences await your Clients who choose a Disney celebration vacation in 2009.
