OLP Review : Menu(s) : Other Disney Hollywood Studios Restaurants

Cuisine: American
Price Scale: $$
Meals Served: L, D

The Sci-Fi Restaurant is an attraction in itself. The setting at this unique eatery is a drive-in movie. You sit in a vintage '50s convertible and watch old sci-fi movie clips. Fiber-optic stars twinkle above in the evening sky, and a carhop will come around to take your order. Choices include pasta, burgers, chicken, steak, a variety of sandwiches and milkshakes.

This MGM Studio's sit-down restaurant is located next to the Writer's Stop store. Priority seating is encouraged.

This is the place for a really fun and memorable meal. The service is exceptionally friendly.

OLP Review:

We're dining amongst the stars (slightly different ones than at the Hollywood Derby today; >) at the Sci Fi Diner

Where the ambiance is just like a night under the stars at the Drive-In theatre.

and the tables look a whole lot like cruisemobiles from one direction...

and two-by-two seating from another.

The movie reel is strictly 60's Science Fiction (quite a genre, n'est-ce pas?)

Even us reviewers took an eery "Sci-Fi" glow.

Amongst us, we ordered:

The Burger.  Sadly, Alan wasn't impressed enough with it to even take a picture of the 'insides'.  Our Burger Connoisseur gave this burger an OLP thumbs down with a 2.5 rating on a scale of 10.

The Barbeque Chicken Sandwich.  TigH gave this baby a two thumbs up with tender chicken and good taste!

7 Bean Chili.  I liked my Chili and gave it a solid "good" rating.

We also ordered the two salads and both got "good to excellent" ratings..
House Salad

Ceasar Salad

The piece de resistance for me (of course; >) was the sugar free Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble with sugar free Vanilla Ice Cream (I had to call ahead with 24 hours notice to arrange for this.

It really was a fun-filled lunch with a waiter whose sense of humor really made it happen for us.  Ambiance and service got an OLP six thumbs up!

Our Favorite Disney Meal of All6/2/2007 by Kristin
We loved this place.  The atmosphere was very nice.  Surprisingly it was kind of quiet.  Our waiter (Micheal from CA) was excellent and had a great sense of humor.  My young son gave up a dollar and starburst from his pocket for him as he made him feel so special.  The milkshakes are to die for, the ribs were delicious and we were there the first night they tried their new steak and it was AWESOME.  For appetizers we had onion rings as well as the cheese/spinach dip.  Both were very good. This is on the Disney Dining Plan and was great for older kids who were getting tired of character meals.  A great switch.  I can say nothing bad about this place.  Be sure to ask your server to get your picture of you eating in the cars.  That‘s the fun part.Read reviews by this author

Neat Ambience1/13/2007 by LP
It was neat here. The food was okay. The ribs were way too salty. The milkshakes were great. The appetizers were good. The burgers were good. My daughter and I were sharing a meal, and our server still brought out 2 drinks for us, and split our meal onto two plates, and we didn't even ask her to. The desserts were good too. Not noisy in here like I thought it would be, though can be noisy with the speaker right in your ear. Also very dark in here. We would probably go here again.Read reviews by this author

Fun, yet disappointing8/19/2006 by Kait

As a frequent Disney World vacationer, I had never been to the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater until a just recently. Upon entering, I was refreshingly impressed with the theming and great service/servers. I absolutley loved the dining arrangment of eating inside of a car! When it came time to order, I went with the BBQ Chicken Breast, and was not impressed at all. The chicken was full of yucky chicken parts, and was "dried out." The fries were good, as they are usually at any Disney establishment. It was disappointing having to pay so much money for an all but great meal. Even though the meal was iffy, the experience without it was great. If I ever go again, I think I'll go with a salad! All in all, it was worth it for the ambiance and friendly/entertaining service.

I like this place9/20/2005 by Anne
Ive eaten here twice, once in 2002 and once in 2004. Both times, the atmosphere was great...sitting in the cars, watching the movies. But the second time the food was much, much better than the first time. Im glad we tried it again despite the so-so food the first time because they really improved on it. I would eat there again.Read reviews by this author

ate lunch here on 8/13/05. We had the hamburgers. Mine was cooked medium with sauteed mushrooms,Id give it a 7/10. Hubby had his medium well with american cheese,6/10. We both enjoyed shakes with our meals, strawberry for me and Fred had his usual chocolate. We also enjoyed the movie clips sitting in the backseat of our car! Read reviews by this author

ok

I love the atmosphere of the Sci Fi, but the food was disappointing last time I was here. I had a chicken sandwich and the cookie monster dessert, but neither was very good, and I hated having to pay $30 for it! I really love watching the old clips and the atmosphere is cool, but they need better food!Read reviews by this author

Great atmosphere!
11/17/2003 by Babs
We visited here in 11/03 and truly enjoyed ourselves. We had a PS so we ate in a "real" car. There were 11 of us, so they gave us 3 of them. The kids were issued drivers licenses before our meal. We just had burgers and shakes which were usual fare, but this place is all about the atmosphere. Of all the resturants in all the parks this was the kids (ages 8, 7 & 3) favorite. If you want a place to go where your kids are totally entertained and you can sit back and relax then this is it. Read reviews by this author

fun
3/16/2003 by Susan:)
Ive been here a few times, and its always fun. The old sci fi horror movie previews are hilarious. In fact, thats what I like best. They also show old theater cartoons. It is very fun to sit in a car to eat, and some of the waiters are on roller skates! The food is pretty good. I get the hamburger, the other food is kind of exotic. I have also tried the pork egg rolls, and they were really good. But the old movies are the best!Read reviews by this author
