Tasty Cuban dishes at Bongos Cuban Cafe on the West Side of Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World
Located in Downtown Disney's West Side, Bongos is a Cuban eatery.
Outside, is a counter service window with outside seating.
Inside, the entrance is majestic
The ambiance is cool and refreshing after a day in the Florida sun, and the ceiling is a work of art!
Cuban bread comes first, of course; >)
We chose Arroz Con Pollo (got two thumbs up:)
and Pollo Asada. This is the house specialty and could easily feed two people with the generous (and delicious) sides. The yucca was prepared to perfection!
Expect to pay approximately $20 per entree. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Bongos and look forward to enjoying the Cuban way of life again soon!
I've been to both Cuban restaurants, the one in Celebration and this one in Downtown Disney. Bongos has a much more extensive menu, and I think the food is good enough to warrant 4 stars. The ambiance is very colorful, but the music is a little bit loud to have good conversation during the meal.
I LOVED the fried yucca dipped in a garlic sauce! And the avocado salad was the perfect compliment. I ordered some mozzerella cheese on the side to make sure I had protein in the meal, and I was set! A delicious gluten free and no sugar added meal :D Alan got a "real" entree--Fried Beef--and he said it was very flavorful as well.
On the spur of the moment, we decided to grab dinner at Bongos Cuban Cafe. After some pondering of the menu, and a little help from the waiter, I decided on the "Bongos Famous Fried Shredded Beef" aka Vaca Frita. Wow, this dish is just a burst of savory flavor. The beef has been soaked in some flavorful sauce and then cooked til tender and fried to give it a bit of a crisp, topped with perfectly sauteed onions. I savored every chewy mouthful of my beef. This also came with sides of rice, tasty cooked plantain and black beans -- but the sides paled in comparison with the star of the meal. My wife ordered fried Yucca (Yuca Frita) and the Avocado salad and was deliriously happy -- proclaiming that Bongos is her new favorite restaurant. Between the Fried Beef, Yucca fries and the Avocado salad, all at a very moderate price of $39 for both of us (no dessert, no drinks) I have to give Bongos a
If you like Cuban food, this is a do not miss dining experience in Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World. Truly authentic Cuban cuisine is what you will find here; delicious and enjoyable from start to finish. You will also find that you can use your Disney Dining sit down credits; it takes one credit for a meal here, to eat at this wonderful restaurant.
I'm Cuban-American and obviously couldn't go to Disney without trying the Estefan's famous Bongo's. We went during a high-peak season and actually got right in (it was a Thursday around 8pm). The food was good, the service not so much -- the reviewer who mentioned the pile of onions, that's the way it's traditionally done so that won't really change in most Cuban restaurants. The food IS good but it's not the best Cuban food out there, Versailles and Lario's in Miami are MUCH better. I had the arroz con moros and pollo asado...the chicken wasn't all that and the rice seemed a bit dry...the fried plantains we really greasy and the bread at the beginning was cold.

We decided to visit Bongos on our first day of vacation b/c they don't take ADR's and we figured that would be our best bet to get in to. And we were right. We got right in which was great since we were very hungry! Our waiter was very nice and polite, but not the most attentive. When we did see him, he was happy to answer any questions about the food or whatever, we just didn't see much of him! I really enjoyed my meal, but dh said his was ok at best. I think the large amounts of onions piled on it didn't make him happy. A few would have been fine, but this was a lot! One big thing I will say is that the portions are HUGE!! I had some kind of pork chop thing and it had 3 pork chops!! Plus yucca, veggies, etc! So, this would be an ideal place to split a meal! And that would save a nice chunk of $$, too! All in all, I enjoyed our meal
