Ariel's Grotto

This is one restaurant that stands out with it's architecture!

This restaurant is a "fixed price menu" Character meal.  This means that -- for one set price you choose from a selection of appetizers, entrees, and desserts (one each per person) with a non-alcoholic beverage included.

Once inside, the theming is decidedly "under water"

The tables, however, are very comfortable and land-like; >)

Our meal started with warm bread...

and we both chose the salad as our appetizer.

Alan chose the Salmon BLT Sandwich

I opted for the Chicken Pot Pie.  We were impressed with the quality of both entrees.

There weren't any sugar free dessert options so we put in a request to the waitress to remember sugar free desserts for fixed price meals next menus are developed and left feeling satisfied rather than full:)

Of course, the main feature of the character meal was the princesses.

They were sweet as can be with no sugar added; >)

We waited for a table for about a half hour with no reservations,

and we agreed the quality of the food was worth the wait.  This is a park restaurant we'd be happy to sample again!  OLP three thumbs up! (four if they'd had sugar free desserts; >)

Possibly the best lunch to be found at DCA!4/21/2007 by Ser Alan
We stopped here for lunch the other day.  The food is pretty good, probably the best I've seen in DCA at lunchtime (which is perhaps not saying much)  Of course, all the little girls were thoroughly entranced by the princesses.  That didn't do much for me though, I was mainly enjoying the salad and Salmon BLT which were good enough.  Seating was comfortable, the two-top table we had was a good sized table, and we had a decent view of Paradise Pier.  Unfortunately they had no sugarfree option for dessert, the best they could offer us was a bowl of fruit which doesn't count for dessert with us.  Hence, the downgrade from what would otherwise be 4 stars from me. Read reviews by this author

If you have girls, you've got to do it!12/30/2006 by Kristin

My sister in law and I budgeted for this special ladies lunch for our girls.  If you have little girls, you've got to do this.  The food is pretty good, especially the desserts, but who cares about that, each princess comes right to your table, you have a chance to talk to them, get a picture and an autograph.  After your meal they bring out a big puff of cotton candy.  Our girls are older but there were many little girls there dressed in their princess dresses.  Its good food and a great idea for families or for just mother/daughter time.  If you have little girls you have to budget for this.  You won't regret it!

Ariel's visit7/30/2006 by Beth

We ate here for my birthday last year.

The decor is really outstanding, the food at that time not so much.

It's a character meal and that was fun.

I had a burger and it was only fair.

Coffee wasn't very good and altho they brought me a fresh cup, still, not good.

Rudy had a pot pie (he loves pot pies) and said it was so so.

The fun part is that they bring you a little mound of cotton candy at the end of the meal.

The experience was fun and perhaps the food has improved.

I'll give it another try some day.
