It's time for the Polynesian Luau!

We've done the Hoop De Doo Review, and thoroughly enjoyed it...  We decided THIS would be a perfect opportunity to sample the luau.  The show stage is along the pathway between the Polynesian and Grand Floridian Resorts.  You know you are in the area when you start seeing these little guys posing as torches

The shows start at specific times so there is a large waiting area where drinks can be purchased for guests who arrive a tad early.

Upon entering the "show area"...

Dinner is served on the pewter boat platter you see on each table.  It's plentiful, if not particularly "gourmet" in preparation

The show starts with the background band playing.

The first part of the show includes audience participation... birthdays, honeymoons, and anniversaries are acknowledged.  Folks are invited up for Hula lessons.

The second half of the show focuses on different costumes and dance styles of the Polynesian islands..

And the highlight of the show is the Fire Dancer...

We happened to be sitting next to friends of the Fire dancer who worked with him at Costco during the day.  He is part of a Samoan community who moved to the Florida area and send monies back to their families on the island.  ...adds a touch of depth to the show, n'est-ce pas?

This is a great show for folks who are celebrating and want to be called up on stage or for folks who are interested in costuming and traditional dance.

Fun experience

We took the boys to the Luau on a rainy day. We were worried they would cancel it, but they worked right through the rain. The food was great. They served separate kids meals, if you asked. My kids loved the hula dancing and the fire dancing. It does take a little bit to get to that part of the show. We sat in the upper level category and had a great view.
