Disney's Grand Gatherings

average rating: Read Member Reviews | Submit a review! | Check out other OLP articles

This has got to be one of the best packages Disney has ever offered.  We know that any gathering at Walt Disney World is a Magical Gathering, right?    If you book the Dream Maker Package, or even a room only reservation, for your stay at Disney, and you have more then 8 people (ages 3 and over, under 3 is free) in your party, you qualify for Disney's Grand Gatherings

Here are some of the basic perks you will receive when booking your Grand Gatherings vacation.

One of the things everyone is concerned with is where the room assigner will put you when you check in.  OLP Travel always makes requests for you.  We fax the room assigner a couple of days ahead to reaffirm that request.

If you have booked a Grand Gatherings Dream Maker Package you get first priority for room assignment.   Of course Disney never guarantees you where you will be, but the Grand Gatherings groups get first choice.  Disney will do the very best to have all of your rooms side by side.

The next thing that everyone hopes for is to have the best tables when they dine out at Disney.  Grand Gathering guests get first priority for tables when they check in at the podium.  I love this perk!  Again, Disney never guarantees, but if your group is a Grand Gatherings group, you can be guaranteed preferred status treatment.

  • First preference for room placement at your resort
  • Preferred seating at WDW restaurants

Of course, your travel pixie with OLP Travel will be more then happy to make your Priority Seating arrangements for you.  You have to be dining as a group of eight or more to be given the preferred placement for seating at the restaurants.

Now comes the best part of being a Grand Gatherings guest.  The Grand Gatherings Experiences.  These are only available to Magical Gatherings guests.   You have to have eight people who want to take part in each Experience, and 80% of your party must be staying on Walt Disney World property, in a Disney owned resort.   Children age 3 and under do not count as one of the eight people needed to take part in the Experiences.  They can take part in it, but the eight people needed to qualify must be age 3 or older.  The Experiences are quite special.  You will be creating magical memories that will last a lifetime.

Disney offers four Grand Gatherings Experiences.
  • Good Morning on Tuesdays and Saturdays
  • Fireworks Cruise on Saturdays and Mondays
  • Animal Kingdom Safari on Sundays and Thursdays
  • Odyssey Dining on Mondays and Fridays

The Good Morning Experience would certainly be a wonderful way to start a magical day at Walt Disney World.  You will be having breakfast at Tony’s Town Square Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom.  In fact you will get to meet Tony from the movie Lady and the Tramp!   Breakfast will be served family style at your table.  There will be characters there throughout breakfast to entertain you and visit with you.  After you eat you will get some quality time with the main mouse himself, Mickey Mouse!

The cost for this Grand Gatherings Experience is:
Children age 3 to 9, $11.99
Adults age 10 and up, $24.99

The Fireworks Cruise Experience is not like any other you have been on.  You start at the dock at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  Disney will have a gourmet dessert buffet there for you.   Also Captain Hook and Mr. Shmee will be there to meet you.  They will spend time with you and your children.  Expect lots of fun from these two!  When it is time to set sail you will have an Official Disney Pirate in charge of your boat.  When you set sail you will take a Pirate Oath.  The pirate in charge of your boat will tell you a story about Peter Pan.  You will not only see the Magic Kingdom Fireworks, but also get to see the Electrical Water Pageant up close.  As your cruise comes to an end there will still be fun waiting at the dock.  Peter Pan himself will be there to greet your boat as it returns.  He will sing autographs and be available for pictures.

The cost for this Grand Gatherings Experience is:

Children age 3 to 9, $14.99
Adults age 10 and up, $29.99

The Animal Kingdom Safari Experience takes you to the Flights of Wonder show in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  You will enjoy a wonderful show about the fascinating creatures on earth that aren't always on earth. Sometimes they're in the air, right over your shoulder. Through natural behavior and free-flight performances the squawking, talking cast of this live feather-flying production reminds us all of the extraordinary winged treasures with which we share this planet.  After the show you will be escorted to the Kilimanjaro Safaris in Africa.  If you have ever taken the safari you know it is wonderful.  Your safari with the Animal Kingdom Safari Experience will be a much slower pace, which guarantees it to me more memorable then ever before.  Expect to see lots of the animals up close on this safari.  After your safari you will be dining at the Tusker House Restaurant.  There will be live entertainment, and you will get to visit with Timon from the Lion King, and Turk from Tarzan.  As if all of this wasn’t enough, after dining you will be escorted to a special viewing spot for Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s parade.

The cost for this Grand Gatherings Experience is:
Children age 3 to 9, $19.99
Adults age 10 and up, $59.99

The Odyssey Dining Experience takes place at Epcot.  You will start at the Odyssey Restaurant with a wonderful dinner buffet.  There will be various characters to visit with.  Of course in true Disney fashion you will be entertained with storytelling, dancing, and lots of fun.  After dinner your party will be escorted to a special viewing area right near Mexico.  Here you will be served a wonderful dessert buffet and you will have the very best viewing spot for Illuminations.

The cost for this Grand Gatherings Experience is:
Children age 3 to 9, $19.99
Adults age 10 and up $59.95

Reservations for Disney’s Grand Gatherings Experiences can be made up to 90 days ahead.  Payment must be received in full 45 days ahead, and you can cancel without penalty 5 days before your Grand Gatherings Experience is scheduled.  Your OLP Travel pixie will be more then happy to make those arrangements for you.

It's All Good!

Fun For All Ages

We gathered at the Contemporary with about a dozen other "Magical Gathering" groups and were let into the dessert buffet area one at a time as our names were called.  Pirate theming was everywhere!  The desserts were varied and the castmembers did their best to accommodate special dietary requests, though it seemed they werent prepared even though there were notes in the reservation.

The characters were playful and interactive, the pirate "hosts" were talented singers and comedians.

All in all, they kept us amused from start to finish!  The highlight for me was seeing the firewarks from the water: WOW!  But I think the kids might have liked the Quiz Game better because they got prizes; >)  And Peter Pan was waiting on
