Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside

Restaurants : Floor Plan : Pictures : Video

For folks wanting a relaxed feeling of the “Bygone South”, Port Orleans Riverside Resort offers hospitality with the sound of crickets and frogs singing in the background. The second largest moderate resort, Port Orleans Riverside is themed in two distinct southern flavors: Magnolia Bend offers mansion type buildings with elegant furnishings and Alligator Bayou recreates the backwoods sense of rural living in two story buildings surrounded by nature and furnished in rustic pieces. In addition to the beautifully landscaped grounds and impeccable theming, the Port Orleans Riverside Resort offers:

  1. The Sassagoula River boat ride to Downtown Disney… one of the more romantic experiences at the World, imho
  2. A delightful 10 minute stroll to the Port Orleans resort along the Sassagoula River where pool sharing as well as restaurant sharing is welcomed
  3. A themed “swimmin hole” with a slide and hot tub as well as five quiet pools around the resort
  4. Boatwright’s full service restaurant offering breakfast and dinner, southern style and the Cotton Co-op food court that gets high reviews from many

Recreation opportunities include boat and surrey bike rental as well as fishing excursions on the Sassagoula River and a “catch and release” activity for children on Ole Man Island.

Port Orleans Riverside Resort rooms are the standard 314sq ft for moderate resorts, and most rooms sleep four. Some of the Alligator Bayou rooms have the capacity to sleep five if the fifth person is small. Port Orleans Riverside offers pizza delivery to rooms. Transportation to all parks is via bus, and there are several stops throughout the Port Orleans Riverside Resort. For people who enjoy Downtown Disney, this is prime location.

Favorite Moderate on 9/22/2016 by Jodi

I absolutely love this resort. It's the first Moderate Resort we ever stayed at and it will always hold a special place in my heart. All of the trees and flowers are gorgeous. And I love the buildings which house the resort rooms. I especially love the Alligator Bayou section. It's so cozy and comfy. Plus the boat ride to Downtown Disney is always wonderful. I would definitely give this resort two thumbs up!

Port Orleans Riverside on 6/5/2016 by Wendy

We have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside in the Royal Guest room. This room was so pretty. The dcor was lovely but not too overly princess-y. The headboards with the digital firefly show are adorable! This is a very large resort and I did feel like we were located far away from dining and the bus stop. However, the amenities far outweigh the short walk though including the carriage rides, Boatwright's restaurant, and the boat to Disney Springs. Overall, we were quite pleased with our stayed at Riverside!

Wonderful resort on 6/21/2015 by Kelly H

This was my families' first time staying at this resort. We stayed in the Royal Suites and the kids loved it! The pool was a major favorite of my kids, who are not great swimmers. They loved the water slide and I loved that my middle son could walk all around the pool without worrying. The only reason I did not give it a 5 was because it is a long walk from everywhere. You have to walk over a bridge to get almost anywhere and they are not as close together as initially thought. Still, I did not go to Disney to sit around, so the walk was pleasant and relaxing. Beautiful location!

Not my favourite Disney Resort on 2/23/2014 by Disneygirl

I had previously stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and absolutely loved it. We planned to stay there again, but when we heard the pool was closed for refurbishment, we switched to Riverside. This is a nice resort but I have a few notes for those who might be planning a stay here. Where your room is located can make or break your stay at this resort. When booking, I requested building 14 as my 83 year old mother was traveling with me and I wanted to be close to the amenities and buses. We actually were booked into building 15 which is not too bad, but 14 would have been my preferred choice. This is a very sprawling resort and depending where your room is located, you may have quite a walk to breakfast or the main pool. I was a little disappointed by the staff at check in because I had to remind them of pretty near everything. They really didn't seem to have the details too in hand, which is different from any other Disney experience I've ever had. Overall, everyone

Port Orleans or bust!!! on 9/3/2013 by Henry

I 'm only biased because I've tried several of the Disney resorts and found that Port Orleans Riverside is the most relaxing and well kept of the resorts. Alligator Bayou with rooms surrounded by trees and water make a walk to the main building very nice. The boat taxis to downtown Disney are part of the charm that engulfs you and never let's you forget that you're being treated special while on your vacation. Bus service is superb and our waits even after barely missing a bus has never been more than 15 minutes or so for us. Enjoy the New Orleans flavor of this resort because if you try it once you'll want to go back.

My home away from home on 6/25/2013 by Felicity

Okay so I have stayed here for who nows how many times and am always pleased with the result. The pools are really nice even the quieter ones. We are staying here in November of 2013 and we are stayin in the royal rooms and this is out first time. Can't wait to see them and can't wait to go. I also can't wait to try the boat ride. I here they are every nice and relaxing so I can't wait. And also the resort has a restaurant and quick service so if your looking for a sit down meal or just a quick snack this Hoyle has got it for you. So I hope the next time you go to Disney you pick POR and enjoy your stay!! (:

Amazing and y favorite on 6/18/2013 by Felicity

I have stayed here at this hotel for the past 3 Disney trips and it is amazingly fun every time we come. For years my parents we looking for a hotel that would be fun for then and us and still be cheap ad when we stayed here we never turned back. There are pools here and you can even fit 5 in a room without making it a suite which is what we needed!!

Quaint resort on 5/23/2013 by Tonya

I've stayed at POR a couple of times. Both stays we were in the Alligator Bayou rooms. I love the theme! I have stayed in the older style before the new remodel. I love how Disney kept it 'woodys'. I really enjoy the resorts theme. It's a big resort and I got lost many times! ha!! The busses actually turned out to be easy, once I figured it out. I like the food court, the shopping... I'd stay here again in the future!

The Very Best Moderate-Level resort on 3/25/2013 by Judy N

Our family has stayed at Port Orleans Riverside off and on for about 20 years. It is our favorite resort! It's beauty and charm are delightful! We've stayed at all the moderate level resorts, and Port Orleans is by far the best in terms of ambiance, space, activities and overall charm!!

Port Orleans Riverside...home away from home! on 12/22/2012 by Tracee

Port Orleans Riverside is an awesome resort!  You can pick from the "Mansion" side of the resort or the Bayou.  Personally, I like the mansions.  It makes me feel like a princess!  I think it looks like a mini version of Grand Floridian. POR is the only moderate resort that offers space for a family of 5.  Along with the 2 queen beds, there is a trundle that pulls out at night.

The main pool is huge with a great water slide for the kids.  It also has a small wading pool for the little ones.  The resort has several "quiet" pools that usually are pretty empty.

Port Orleans a Solid Choice! on 11/29/2012 by Dizneydonna

I really enjoy Port Orleans Riverside, each time we stay.  The atmosphere is oh, so relaxing and the gardens and grounds are beautifully manucured and landscaped.  It is very, very common to see little "critters" running around in abundance all over the place at this lush resort (rabbits, ducks, squirrels, etc).  The rooms are spacious enough for a family of 4 (a bit tight for a family of 5).  I love that they now have the 2 queen beds instead of the 2 full size beds.  The pool is fun with a great pool slide and greatly shaded. I guess the shading can be a plus or minus (if you're talking to sun-bathers).  It also has a nice playground adjacent to the pool, but I've never been fond of the sand bottom for the playground.  I think it can get a little messy with wet kids from the pool falling and playing in the sand (and then dragging it back to the pool).  Recreational activities ar

hotel review on 11/27/2012 by andolino

This was our 2nd time to Walt Disney World, FL and the first time we stayed at the Coronado Springs which was very beautiful. We were very pleased with that hotel. This time, the 2nd time, we decided to try another hotel just to change it up a little. We stayed at the Port Orleans, Riverside hotel.  We had chosen to stay at the Port Orleans French Quarter which was smaller but in order to get the meal plan included we could not stay at the french quarter so we chose Port Orleans Riverside. Riverside was a very very large hotel. Way to large for having one food court. I feel that for such a large hotel should not have had only one food court. Mornings at the food court were so crazy. Difficult to find a table to sit and eat and get going to meet the buses heading to the parks. So that was one negative issue. and the  second was that I found the hotel rooms dusty. Over by the closet I had dropped something and noticed a tremendous amount of dust in the corners.

Port Orleans Riverside...home away from home! on 9/24/2012 by Tracee

My family has been visiting Disney World forever!  We have stayed at POR too many times to count.  We started staying there back when it was Dixie Landings!

The resort is home for us.  We love the rooms, the walkways and the pools.  I think my favorite part of POR is the boat ride to the Downtown Disney and Marketplace area.  The boat ride is about 20 minutes and it is so relaxing!  You almost forget that you are in the middle of the Disney bustle.

Some of the best memories of my children in Disney World is stopping at the food court on the way back from a busy day at the park.  We made it a tradition to have a small snack each night and discuss everyone's favorite part of the day.&nbs

Port Orleans Riverside Royal Rooms on 9/23/2012 by Franniepoppins

Port Orleans Riverside in Walt Disney World did a make over on some of their rooms.  This was a princess makeover!!  The rooms are so pretty and have fun interactive things.  They are truly royal in every way.  Even the faucets in the bathroom are regal looking.  You will really feel like a princess staying in one of these rooms.

Pleased on 4/5/2011 by Heather

I was very worried about how clean this resort was going to be, but I was very happy. We had the building that was closest, 14. No stains on the carpet, but a little small for 5 people. Food was pretty good. Overall nothing fancy, but was very happy with our stay there, other than NO Wifi offered.

PORT ORLEANS on 7/12/2010 by Carol Davis

We just returned from our trip to WDW and our first stay at the Port Orleans Riverside with our family and we had an awesome stay at this resort.  I was very impressed with everything about Port Orleans and everyone was so friendly, helpful and there when you needed them.  Our room was cleaned everyday and always something "special" to look for in our room by the room's maid service.  I would recommend this resort to families as well as couples.  There is something for everyone! We took our grandchildren on an evening horse/carriage ride that went from our resort to the Port Orleans French Quarter next door and they loved it!  The pools were fun and it was just a great 8 days in the Resort.  The food was excellent as well.

Port Orleans Riverside at WDW on 12/12/2009 by Franniepoppins

Port Orleans Riverside is one of my favorite resorts on Walt Disney World property.  I would give it a 5 rating, but they discontinued the morning breakfast at Boatwright's.  This resort has it all, in my opinion.  Staying in a standard room, in the Mansions, requesting a room on Magnolai Bend, near the bridge, will put you near a quiet pool, a bus stop, and the bridge to the main pool and food court.  I prefer the mansions, but Alligator Bayou, requesting building 18, will put you within two minutes walk to the food court, and also near a quiet pool and a bus stop.

Transportation is really a breeze.  There are several bus stops located around the perimeter of the resort.  You have the option of a boat ride to Downtown Disney, along the Sassagoula River.  A short walk will bring you to the sister resort Port Orleans French Quarter.  Have an early dining at

Port Orleans on 1/11/2007 by Mary Ann

My husband and I have stayed at the Port Orleans several times. The first time we stayed was about 8 yeras ago. When we arrived it was about 11PM and as we were checking in we "wondered" what all the noise was. Of course we had to take a look and see and we were surprised to find a wonderful sing a long show going on in the lounge. Because of te late hour we went to the room and went to bed. The next day we hit the park and after seeing all that we wanted, we went back to the hotel. We strolled around the grounds, past the fishing hole, pools, etc and wound up at the lounge where people were taking seats. We decided to stick around and have a drink. We were then AMAZEd by a 45 to one hour set of fun loving, sing a long, dancing, jumpin music by Bob Jackson - one of Disney's hidden wonders. Ever since that first time at the Port Orleans, we make it a point of spending at least one night in the family friendly lounge, enjoying this amazing man. This is FREE fun for the WHOLE

Wasn't What I Expected on 10/17/2006 by Dee

We stayed a the Riverside from 9/16-9/23/06 - I had requested a Manor room and didn't get it... we stay in Alligator Bayuo building 15.  The room was nice, but I would have like the Manor better with two teenage daughters.  The view... we got the view of the parking lot.  Walk to transportation wasn't that bad.  Would I stay there again, probably not.  The theme wasn't exactly what I expected.

Port Orleans Riverside on 1/14/2006 by tricia and jon

we stayed at port orleans riverside the last four times that we have gone to disney and our family loves it there.  The souvenier shops, the restaurants, the rooms, the boat that takes you directly to downtown disney, and the staff were wonderful.  If you want to go to a great hotel while on vacation, this is definitely one that should be considered.  It has "the appeal of rural louisiana" says the disney world web site, and we couldnt agree more.  Its great!

Port Orleans Riverside on 4/16/2005 by Jodi

We stayed here in Sept of 2004 and ABSOLUTELY loved it! The rooms were very nice and the service was excellent! Even with hurricane Jeannes arrival, the cast members were so kind and helpful. They had games and crafts for the kids on the day of Jeanne and made even a hurricane become a special memory! Boatwrights has very good breakfasts for reasonable prices, too! The pool is awesome, though we found it hard to catch the lifeguards on duty so that the waterslide would be open. My kids loved it! They cant wait to go back there!
